These illustrations by W. Heath Robinson are from a 1909 edition of A Song of the English by Kipling; the illustrations depict cities of the British Empire at the time.

Following a tradition of depicting cities as women, Robinson adds a personal and a distinctive art nouveau-touch to the illustrations, which depict clockwise from top left:
